They have offices in all 5 states, and sell a range of top-name insurance products, including Prudential, Farmers, and State Farm. The benefit of General insurance for the policy holder is that independent agencies compare quote between many different companies rather than only offering quotes from a single one.

DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR INSURANCE , July, 2016
My claims representative Kevin K. has been delaying and hindering with my claim. This is neglect and I have reached out to his Supervisor with no reply.
Car accident nightmare, January, 2018
I was in an automobile accident on 12/27/17. Hit in a parking lot by a girl doing about 50, insured by Permanent General. The accident was 100% her fault as admitted by everybody involved. I submitted a claim through her insurance company and was given an adjusted named Shavern Belle. Permanent General then proceeded to have my car towed to a salvage yard one hour and 20 minutes away from where it was. This company IAA lost my only set of car keys. This lost keys delayed my auto body shop from estimating my vehicle. A new set of keys had to be created and a lock smith had to re-key my car. The General had the nerve to blame this delay on the auto body shop and ordered my to return my rental car before any repairs were even authorized to be completed. I left 3 voicemail messages for Shaverns supervisor Kim Record in regards to needing a rental vehicle until my vehicle was repaired. She did not return one of my phone calls. I did not get to speak to her until I called the claims line and refused to be put into voicemail and held for 25 minutes. Her response was to bad for me. Again they went back and forth on repairs until Friday 1/26, 30 days after my accident, when Shavern Belle stated that they would not be paying any repairs and I would have to subjugate through my insurance company. Do not use this company for your insurance. Go through Statefarm, Geico , one of the real insurance companies. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with, horrible customer service and these people just do not care. If you get jerked around from this company as I have submit a complaint through the BBB and through Division of Finance. Maybe with enough complaints we can put this company out of business. I have now filed a claim through my insurance company.

Worst company ever! Bunch of thieves and liars. Gave me insurance then tripled my rate claiming I was at fault for 2 accidents. I sent documentation proving otherwise 3 times and got a letter claiming they were canceling my insurance for too many at faults. So, I got a different (better) insurance at a lesser rate without the hassle. 3 months later they send me a bill claiming they reinstated my account without my permission or consent. Have now been fighting with them for 4 months telling them I'm not paying for something I never requested. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE HORRIBLE!

This is the worst company to ever be insured with. My family and I fell on hard times and I only could pay half of my car insurance payment and I was going to pay the remaining balance the next week. They refused to accept that and lasted my insurance causing me to have a bunch of reinstatment fees with the office of motor vehicle. They are not always the best because they are the cheapest!

I unfortunately had to file a claim for damages and the person who hit me was at fault. We both unfortunately had Permanent General. Even with that being said, for 3 years I have been a changed person, I have been in and out of physical therapy, suffer migraines now, have gained weight due to not being able to do the activities I used to do and depression over everything. At almost two years in I finally got an MRI and it showed the damage to my cervical vertebres. I tried pain management, physical therapy, injectons and am finally on a waiting list to go to the Dr to see if surgery is an option. BOTH OF US CARRIED LIMITED LIABILITY. Permanent General is fighting me, over 50,000, saying that I never actually got surgery so how do they know I am serious. HOURS of therapy, NEEDLES in my neck, SERIOUSLY? Dr.s saying they think surgery is INEVITABLE. I am disgusted with these guys, I am APPALED at the way they have handled this FROM THE START and I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN! BUYER BEWARE!! I have heard they are a nightmare to have if you ever actually need them and boy, ITS THE TRUTH.

I'm 36 years old with a clean driving record and no tickets i drive a family car live in a low crime area and have a college education all things that make me a prime candidate for low insurance rates. I started my policy with the general because i knew i wouldn't need to file a claim because i don't get in accidents so i didn't care that their coverage is sub par. However they use a bait and switch technique to screw people who otherwise wouldn't be able to get insurance. So if you start with a great rate as i did. Even if you have no accidents or tickets or claims in the period of your coverage they will JACK your rates up upon renewal. I went from having 2 cars insured to having 1 car and paying TWICE as much. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? I guess they have to pay for those clever ads. Bottom line go ANYWHERE else even progressive or geico. I'm paying half as much with State Farm and they just sent me a REFUND check for $60 because they said they quoted me TOO HIGH, LOL. That's something you will NEVER see from the General. Well i guess i went AWOL cause i'm out of the general's army.

This insurance company do not buy. These people jus take your money. They say they have full coverage but its not. Liability insurance will cover more on ur car than the general full coverage. They are very rude n don't care bout u or ur property

I must say that I agree with the reviewer who stated that The General has fantastic customer service and they do specialize in covering those of us who have had unfortunate accidents in the past. I had a awful experience with Geico in which they left me on my own to deal with the after-effects of an accident after I had been paying them for seven years. I tried Liberty Mutual for awhile, but I was not happy with the manner in which they drafted their payments, so I have finally found the right auto insurance provider for me. So far every payment and interaction has gone off without a hitch and I look forward to a positive business relationship with The General for many years to come!

I got rear-ended by someone with insurance from the general. I agree with Sophia - their name doesn't deserve capitalization. They have used every trick imaginable to delay and avoid paying for any part of my claim against them! It has been 1 1/2 years and I still do not have payment for my medical care nor a rental car I got while mine was in the shop.
They start out by low-balling the repair estimate (ILLEGAL) and only made their estimate more reasonably close to what the ultimate cost would be after I complained to the State Insurance Department. ($630 vs $3200). They were obviously hoping I just would take the money as found money and not actually get the repairs done. Now that the repairs are actually done, they body shop has just given up on trying to get the full fair cost of the repairs from them.
On the medical side, they systematically ignored claims sent in by the providers until I had to send in the provider claims to them myself. After the required checking by Medicare to ensure Medicare doesn't get billed for doctor services that belong to the accident, they found two idiot doctors' offices did bill Medicare. Of course, Medicare wants to be reimbursed by the general, which is right. Now the general wants to deduct those charges from the previously agreed upon settlement despite the fact that the costs were not in the agreed upon compensation in the first place.
They avoid sending you anything in writing and definitely anything giving any sort of list of how they arrive at an offer to settle. They apparently don't want you to know that a bunch of costs are being ignored.
This company will do anything to avoid and delay paying rightful claims. Multiply the total claim of mine by thousands of claims all over the country, delay payment on any of those claims while at least earning interest on all of that money and you can see why they are such reprobates.
Avoid the general any way you can.

Guy Sideswiped me and was at fault(he had Acceptance another crap insurance company) and The General refused to pay for my vehicle claiming that I didn't have enough coverage..smdh. I got in touch with Acceptance being that their client was at fault..they constantly gave the runaround that the guy was covered then he wasn't covered under them! ALL THESE INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE TOTAL LIARS AND THIEVES! WE NEED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM ALL!

I have been with The General for a year and a half now, paying all the premium religiously. I recently hit a curb when turning into a parking lot, damaging a transfer case. They refused to covered, saying that it is a mechanical issue, and not caused by the impact.
This company is a fraud. Stay away from them, go somewhere else. They will find ways to deny your claim.

DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY!!! THE EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE. THEY CUSS YOU OUT AND HANG UP ON YOU WHEN YOU CALL THEM OUT FOR FLAT OUT LYING TO YOU. I FILED A CLAIM OVER A YEAR AGO AND IT HAS YET TO BE COMPLETED. I GOT CALLED A RACIAL SLUR BECAUSE OF MY LAST NAME. WHEN I CALLED BACK TO FILE A COMPLAINT THEY REFUSED TO LET ME SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR. I CANCELLED MY POLICY. THEIR PRICES MAY BE CHEAPER BUT THE CLAIMS PROCESS IS HELL. ID RATHER PAY MORE AND GET TREATED WITH RESPECT THAN SPEND LESS AND DEAL WITH UNPROFESSIONALISM. KIMBERLY, CODY AND MARJORIE ALL NEED TO BE FIRED WITH HATE SPEECH CHARGES AGAINST THEM. I HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED MY ATTORNEY.
